“[Parenting] isn’t a marathon, it isn’t a sprint, it’s a relay race.”

I can’t remember where I read this quote, but I do remember how it resonated deeply, inspiring me to ask for professional help during a rough patch on my own parenting journey.

These words now inspire me to offer help to others. I look forward to joining your parenting team, holding onto the baton, jumping over hurdles, and stopping for water breaks.

Let’s do the hard things of parenting together.

Hi. My name is Brittany.

I am a Mom and Bonus Mom (aka step mom), Wife, Believer, LGBTQIA+ Ally, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Swim Coach, Writer, Life-long Learner, Runner, Open Water Swimmer, Family Scheduler, Refiller of ALL THE THINGS, Microwaver, Sports Taxi Driver, Memory Maker, and Collector of Moments of Joy (30 seconds, to be exact).

I am a Certified Positive Discipline Facilitator and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Indiana.

I am the owner of BloomingKids Counseling, LLC where I specialize in providing mental health services for children and their families to address ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, executive functioning, sensory processing, social skills, and parent-child attachment. I am trained in sandtray, art and play therapy.

I view the parent-child relationship through the framework of Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Attachment Theory. IFS is an evidenced-based, trauma-informed, non-pathologizing psychotherapy model that approaches the human psyche as a complex system. This model holds the belief that there is an innate wisdom in all of us, powerful enough to result in transformational healing for both ourselves and our children. Attachment Theory explains how early bonds between children and their caregivers shape emotional development and influence relationships throughout life.

I blend IFS and Attachment Theory with neuroscience: understanding behaviors through the lens of nervous system safety, Polyvagal Theory, brain-based differences and sensory needs. I currently specialize in working with neurodivergent parents and children. I have completed the PDA level one training for professionals and parents by PDA North America. I was accepted into a year-long Professional Immersion Intensive with Robyn Gobbel at her Baffling Behavior Training Institute (BBTI) and will begin training January 2026 to continue to learn how to help those with vulnerable nervous systems.

I am IFS trained through the IFS Institute (Level One) and through the Internal Family Systems Counselling Associations (IFSCA) course work of Stepping Stones, Stepping Deeper, and Advanced Weekend. I have also completed the IFS Institute Circle Program, Continuity Program and several workshops through PESI, Life Architect, and NICABM.

l hold a level one certification in Theraplay, an evidence-based therapeutic approach for building and enhancing parent-child attachment. I have also completed the Conscious Discipline training: “Building Resilient Schools and Home,” an evidence-based, trauma-informed approach that addresses social emotional learning in children.

Over the past 20 years, I have worked in several systems of care: inpatient hospitalization, residential, school-based, play-based Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), and private practice. I earned my bachelor’s degree from Johns Hopkins University and my master’s degree from Indiana University.
